Week Nine

I finally got to transcribe Jimmy's interview that I had last weekend. I also taped and interviewed Venus' interview. I am having serious second thoughts about Venus as a main character. She is just too guarded. I tried to do the get to know you thing but it's been very difficult...I have a follow-up with both people.

Also, the MOST adorable news: Oskar, Jimmy's manpanion told me he was proposing! NEXT WEEK!!!! I HAVE to go, I know. I'm just waiting for his say-so.

Just to be on the safe side, I interviewed one of the girls who responded to my NYU ad. Her name is Mariana and she is a bisexual freshman at NYU. She told me she came out using "Glee"--which was interesting to say the least. She represents the new model of "gay" and Latina to me because she is biracial and she had the best and worst of two cultures in her upbringing. She said it was difficult to explain her sexuality to family from her dad's side (Latino) but significantly easier for her mom's side (white). She said the media, her activist mom, her multi-sexual neighborhood and the Gay Straight Alliance at her school were factors that made it easy for her to be an open Latina. She also said her grandmother from her father's side still doesn't acknowledge the sexuality as viable.

It's good to have her in the back of my mind but she isn't from NYC, she lives on the west coast which would make any footage of her parents almost impossible to get...

I also got in contact with Rosemary and Andrew, two other NYU Latino's interested in participating. I don't know what I'll do with them yet but I have a feeling they will come in handy.
