Week Eleven

So, I presented the idea of the look at DR homosexuality during Trujillo's regime and my classmates at the J-school were not enthused. They didn't think it would be interesting... And I can see how it wouldn't be something a group of 20 year olds would watch but I assumed it was clear that the target audience (PBS doc-like, middle aged, intellectuals, senior history buffs, older Latino community)isn't them. Jason, you seemed a little more open to it, understanding that it would be a multimedia piece and not a traditional doc.

But, regardless I have decided to stay with the original idea and just use my previous back-up contacts as the younger perspective. This decision came after I spoke with you on the phone and discussed the alternative to the Turjillo idea ( to use 4 main characters discussing how it was, how it is, and then a collection of talking heads placed in between talking about why it has changed). I believe you said that is too many people to fit into a 20 minute doc.

SO, now I'm still rolling with Jimmy and building our relationship. I have scheduled two shoot days with him this week, him going to a poetry even in Washington Heights tomorrow and brunch with his fiancé on Saturday.

I also met with my NYU student, Joshua who is half white and half Columbian. He is from MD so I have discussed the possibility that I will film him wih his family over winter break. I will be shooting him this Saturday at the park to see his on camera presence. I chose him as a good backup because of his accessibility and his perspective. He is very articulate and is open about conceptualing his sexuality. Hopefully he will be a good character to cultivate.

Also, I GOT the DURF!!!
