Week Three

The project has been shaped and changed to "Growing Up Gay and Latino: A Documentary". So, this week has been mostly about acquiring contacts. I got in touch with the LGBT Director of Youth Services and she told me to make a flyer that she will circulate around the Center. So I made one and e-mailed it to her. I called her a few times (every day this week) to make sure she received the e-mail; she's been hard to get.
I also have posted similar content from the flyer on Craigslist everyday. No hits yet, but I mean, it's a hard sell. I'm asking people to tell me very personal details about their lives and then asking them if I can film it.
I am also in the middle of contacting the NYU LGBT Center, the Gay and Lesbian Dominican Empowerment Organization, the Colombian Lesdbian and QV Association, Homovisiones, Latino QV Men of New York, Latinos and Latinas de Ambiente, Mano a Mano and the Ali Forney Center, a shelter for LGBT Youth.
My roommates friend also knows an older gay man who sounds like he has an interesting story to tell. Essentially, I'm in the wait-and-see. All I can do now is keep casting out a wide net and hope to catch some of the bigger fish.
